Chiropractic is Safe

Chiropractic has an excellent safety record and is considered a conservative approach to health. It avoids invasive procedures or addictive drugs, which makes it suitable for a many different people.
Studies have shown that a course of chiropractic care for neck and back pain was 250 times safer than anti-inflammatory drugs.

How does it work?

A chiropractic adjustment involves gradual applications of force to a locked joint, helping it regain a normal range of motion. This is done either via the chiropractor’s hands, or using an instrument called an activator. We can also use pelvic blocks to realign the body. Special techniques are used for adjusting infants and children.

A safe and natural procedure, its purpose is to improve spinal function, nervous system function, enhance posture and health. Chiropractors rely on their skill and training, not force, ro provide safe and effective adjustments.

After years of university training and clinical experience, each of our chiropractors have become highly skilled in the delivery of a variety of adjusting approaches designed to suit your needs.

Do chiropractic adjustments hurt?

The adjustment is very safe, gentle and effective. In fact, most people find having an adjustment very relaxing. As spinal movement is restored, you may hear or feel popping in the spinal joints. This is caused by the release of gas as normal motion returns.

How late in Pregnancy is it possible to receive a Chiropractic Adjustment?

Many of our patients have come in and been adjusted during the early stages of their labor. It is never too late. The chiropractic adjusting tables can also accommodate a growing belly, to ensure your comfort during your adjustment.

Is Chiropractic Safe During Pregnancy?

Yes. Chiropractors train specifically on the care of a pregnant mother from preconception to birth.

Chiropractic care is appropriate for babies and children?

Birth can result in significant trauma for a newborn and many parents opt to have their children checked for spinal problems. Later in life, children can incur spinal health related problems through the acts of learning to walk, ride a bike, and a range of other childhood activities.

Having regular checkups throughout childhood is important to minimise spinal health problems later in life. Often disregarded as “growing pains,” periodic checkups can be helpful for improving overall well-being and avoiding some health complaints as an adult. These adjustment procedures are modified to suit the smaller, still developing bodies of children.

Am I too old for chiropractic care?

As the body ages, the need for treatment that promotes better spinal function increases. chiropractic treatment is ideal for older people as it helps to improve mobility, vitality, endurance, and appetite, with many patients also reporting a decrease in the severity of arthritis symptoms and other ailments associated with ageing.

Your chiropractor will tailor a treatment to provide maximum results, without compromising your comfort or safety.

You Get to Choose!

Although the vast majority of people report significant improvements in their pain within just a few adjustments, spinal problems that have been neglected since early childhood may require ongoing supportive care for optimum spinal function for up to 12 weeks. Longstanding problems that are associated with muscle weakness, soft tissue and ligament damage, as well as degenerative changes to the spine can require 12 months to fully restore. This is not unlike correcting the shape of the teeth if they are misaligned. Our role is to give you the best recommendations for care, but you are always in the driver’s seat to choose how you use chiropractic.

Crisis Care

Chiropractic care is also available for patients who are experiencing sudden pain, or pain that has become unbearable over time. While an emergency service is generally costlier, this is a valuable and necessary option to help everyone reach their health goals.

What about Wellness care?

Most patients find that regular chiropractic checkups help keep them in tiptop shape. Those who are active, have stressful jobs, or want to be their very best, find that a schedule of wellness visits is helpful in the enhancement of good health. The length of your chiropractic care schedule is up to you.

What results can I expect?

We will work with you closely to ensure you reach the levels of health you desire by completing a thorough assessment of your current health and giving our best recommendations to reach them in the quickest possible time. The more you participate in your care by following our recommended exercises, the better our patients tend to respond. Statistically, research shows that chiropractic care is more effective and economical and also gives longer lasting results for disorders of the spine than other forms of health care.

Chiro or Physio?

In understanding the difference between Chiropractic and Physiotherapy, we recommend referring to the definition of each practice. Chiropractic is a health care discipline based on the scientific premise that the body is a selfregulating, selfhealing organism. The practice of Chiropractic focuses on the relationship between structure (primarily the spine, and pelvis) and function (as coordinated by the nervous system) and how that relationship affects the preservation and restoration of health. Physiotherapy, as described by the Australian Physiotherapy Association, “uses a variety of techniques to help your muscles and joints work to their full potential. It can help repair damage by speeding up the healing process and reducing pain and stiffness."
Each individual is different and when we conduct our comprehensive evaluation, we can let you know which modality of careis going to be best to suit your health goals and tailor a strategy specific to you.

Do you need a referral from a GP?

Chiropractors are primary healthcare practitioners therefore a referral is not necessary. In fact, more and more GP's are referring to Chiropractors via the Enhanced Primary Care Program (EPC).
